Paddle for Puppies 2025

Frequently Asked Questions

What time should I arrive?

Registration check-in will be open from 6:45am to 8:00am and we aim to have everyone on the water by 8:15am. We recommend arriving early to allow time for parking, check-in, and gearing up.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are welcome, but please use caution. Due to the potential presence of toxic blue-green algae in Lady Bird Lake, we ask that you do not allow your dog to swim in or drink the water. An additional waiver is required for those bringing pets and will be available at the registration table the day of the event.

For more information on the current status of Lady Bird Lake, visit www.austintexas.gov/page/algae

Is the event kid-friendly?

Yes! Families and children are welcome to attend. No prior experience is required. This is a non-competitive, beginner-friendly paddle. All paddlers under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Can I bring my own kayak, canoe, or paddleboard?

Yes, you are welcome to bring your own watercraft. Please note you must provide your own lifejacket and pump to inflate your watercraft if you choose this option. We will have volunteers working the boat drop-off station at Rowing Dock so you can drop it off and then park. For your safety, do not attempt to carry your board from the parking area to Rowing Dock. To expedite the process and to get everyone out on the water as quickly as possible, we highly recommend renting a boat from Rowing Dock through the registration process.

Will there be lifejackets available?

Lifejackets are required for all event participants and are included with boat rentals from Rowing Dock. If you are bringing your own watercraft, you must bring your own life jacket.

Where do I park?

Recommended Parking Lots and Addresses:
LBL Parking Lot – 2350 Stratford Drive
Gravel Lot – 2300 Stratford Drive
Given limited parking options throughout Zilker Park, we heavily encourage ride-sharing, biking, or public transit via CapMetro. There is a large gravel lot east of Mopac for the easiest parking, with a 5-10 minute walk to Rowing Dock ($7/vehicle). The city of Austin has made Stratford Drive a NO PARKING zone. Please be advised to park in the designated parking areas. Violators risk being ticketed or towed.

What is included in my registration?

As part of the 2025 Paddle for Puppies experience, all registrants will receive the official 2025 Paddle for Puppies t-shirt and enjoy a vibrant, festival-like atmosphere complete with an APA adoption puppy station, complimentary cold brew coffee, breakfast tacos, and more.

Where do my registration and boat rental fees go?

100% of event proceeds, including boat rental costs, will be donated to Austin Pets Alive!’s Parvo ICU.

What happens if it rains?

Paddle for Puppies is a rain-or-shine event unless severe weather creates unsafe conditions. Any updates will be shared on our social media channels.

Who can I contact if I have questions about my registration?
